A few years ago, I agreed to my family's request for a second dog.  This apprentice dog was a marked change from senior dog.  New pup was what you might call a High Maintenance Dog.  He hadn't quite mastered the concept of relaxing, as perfected by Low Maintenance Dog.  A Jeep ride required constant supervision and it was impossible to leave him in the Jeep if we stopped anywhere.  Enter the Canine Restraint Bar, an exclusive Vernco invention, forming an overhead hoop between the wheelwells:

A side view shows how the tether allows the High Maintenance Dog to move anywhere in the Jeep without being able to jump out.  Before the Canine Restraint Bar, early experiments with a tether secured to the floor resulted in a tangled mess.  The Canine Restraint Bar keeps the tether high enough that no tangling occurs:

An eye bolt is threaded into a tapped hole in the bottom center of the Canine Restraint Bar.  A snap hook on the tether allows quick removal when not needed:

In the ensuing years, time caught up with Low Maintenance Dog (of "Wait 'til the Dog is Cold" fame) and she went to that great doghouse in the sky, surrounded by fields brimming with slow, corpulent rabbits in need of a good chase.  High Maintenance Dog has gracefully calmed with age and has transitioned to Low Maintenance Dog status, but I still use the tether on the Canine Restraint Bar just to be safe.
